Cecilia Mazzetti di Pietralata
Orazio Gentileschi pittore, restauratore e frescante a Palazzo Savelli
Through new documentary evidences, the paper focuses on the circumstances of Orazio Gentileschi’s appointment as a “domestic painter” for the brother Paolo, Federico and Giulio Savelli between 1613 and 1621, executing easel paintings, portraits, copies and restorations.
Thanks to the archival documentation, it is possible to bring to light the restoration carried out by the painter of the Garofalo’s Ascension altarpiece, from the Ferrarese church of S. Maria in Vado and sent to Rome by Federico Savelli at the request of Prince Paolo.
Following the new acquisitions, the hypothesis of Gentileschi’s authorship is proposed for a fresco with the Finding of Moses on the vault of the Palazzo Savelli Gallery.
