The Monuments to the Fallen of All Wars by Umberto Mastroianni in Frosinone: historical events and critical notes

The monument for “Fallens of All Wars” by Umberto Mastroianni, commissioned by the Municipality of Frosinone in 1967, replaces the destroyed one by Cesare Bazzani from which he reuses the tombstone.
In the artist’s long carreer, this great gear is the final term of a Journey of profound reflection on personal experience during the Second World War which encourages the artist to experiment the “assemblage” technique, and ideational procedures witnessed by photos, letters and documents, and the realization of a sculpture that becomes architecture for the city and that re-elaborates the very concept of monument as a choral experience for regeneration of humanity after the violence of war.
