Guido Reni e Caravaggio nella corrispondenza di Paolo Savelli, con una nuova notizia intorno al San Francesco del Louvre
Prince Paolo Savelli has not yet been recognized as a collector of paintings by the Bolognese artist Guido Reni. However, he was the owner of several works by the artist. A recent discovery of unpublished letters has enabled the author to shed light on the relationship between the Roman nobleman and the artist between 1613 and 1618. These documents allow us to recognize in the embroiderer Andrea Benedetti a key figure in acquiring paintings for the Savelli collection. The emerging data about this figure increasingly characterize him as a connoisseur, not just a merchant.
