«La qual figura mandò in Sicilia». Il Cristo benedicente di Ercole Ferrata a San Mauro Castelverde
The article traces the history of an important work by Ercole Ferrata which is presented here for the first time. This is the Blessing Christ preserved at San Mauro Castelverde (Palermo) who was executed in 1674 by the sculptor and commissioned by Don Vincenzo Greco, prelate born in the Sicilian centre but for a long time active in Rome where he played his entire ecclesiastical career. The analysis of eighteenth century sources and of some archival documents made it possible to contextualize the story within the frame of Ferrata’s production and to establish iconographic comparisons with the works of the same subject by Algardi, Bernini and Gaulli.
