Notizie su Caravaggio in collezione Orsini e considerazioni sul Cristo coronato di spine Giustiniani

Thanks to the discovery of previously unknown inventory among the Orsini papers in the Archivio Storico Capitolino (Rome), the author is able to attest the presence of three paintings by Caravaggio in the Orsini collection. The new findings make now possible to add new iconographies to the already known pictorial production of Caravaggio. Furthermore the examination of the caravaggesque oeuvre led the author to formulate a new reading of the The Crowning with Thorns by Caravaggio belonged to the Marquis Vincenzo Giustiniani. The essay is the result of a much larger research undertaken by the project The Orsini and Savelli in Papal Rome. Patronage and Arts of Ancient Families from Feudalism to the European Baroque Courts, whose second research unit (University of Salerno) was supervised by the author.
